Sumathi Holdings Marks 20 Years of Empowering Young Minds Through its Annual Book Donation Programme

Sumathi Holdings proudly marked the 20th consecutive year of its Annual Book Donation Programme, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to education, values, and community development. The programme was held at the Kularathne Hall, Ananda College, bringing together students, parents, educators, and members of the Sumathi Holdings family for a meaningful and inspiring day

This year’s initiative benefited the children of Sumathi Holdings staff, along with selected students affected by Cyclone Ditwah from Ananda College and Gurukula College. In total, more than 900 students participated in the programme.

As part of the initiative, students were provided with essential books and school stationery, supporting their educational journey and encouraging a strong foundation for learning. The event was honoured by an address from Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman of Sumathi Holdings. In his message to the audience, he emphasized the importance of being responsible, disciplined, and compassionate citizens, encouraging students to grow into individuals who contribute positively to the country and society at large.

Following the Chairman’s address, the programme featured an insightful speech by Dr. Priyantha Navarathne, who spoke to the children about understanding and managing the mind, emotional awareness, and self-discipline. His message inspired students to develop inner strength, clarity, and resilience qualities essential for both academic success and personal growth.

For Sumathi Holdings, the Annual Book Donation Programme represents a deeply rooted commitment that extends beyond corporate responsibility. Celebrating two decades of this initiative reflects the Group’s enduring values and its belief that nurturing young minds today helps build a stronger and more conscientious Sri Lanka tomorrow.

Bauddhaloka Foundation Hosts Bauddhaloka Literary Festival 2025 Award Ceremony Under the Patronage of Mr. Jagath Sumathipala

The Bauddhaloka Foundation marked a significant cultural milestone on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, by hosting the Bauddhaloka Literary Festival 2025 Award Ceremony at the Lotus Hall of the BMICH. Held under the distinguished patronage of Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman of the Bauddhaloka Foundation, the event celebrated and evaluated Buddhist literary works produced between 2020 and 2024.

This year’s ceremony embraced the theme “The Buddhist Archaeological Heritage of the Northern Province,” reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to preserving and promoting Sri Lanka’s rich Buddhist literary and archaeological heritage.

The event was graced by the presence of several eminent Buddhist leaders whose contributions continue to strengthen the nation’s spiritual and cultural landscape, including:

Jagath Sumathipala Leads Sumathi Holdings into Solar Power with 5MW Wewila Eheliyagoda Project

Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman of Sumathi Holdings Company, continues to leadhe Group’s commitment to renewable energy with the commissioning of a 5-megawatt (MW) ground-mounted solar power plant at Wewila, Eheliyagoda. This expansion marks the group’s strategic entry into solar energy, following the success of the Sujala Shakthi Hydro Power Plant, and affirms its long-term vision to support Sri Lanka’s transition to clean, sustainable energy.

Initiated in 2024 and completed this year, the project, developed under Sumathi Energy company Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Sumathi Holdings, further strengthens the Group’s commitment to supporting the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) nation’s renewable energy goals. Equipped with advanced photovoltaic panels that convert sunlight directly into electricity, together with SCADA-based monitoring systems, the Wewila Solar Plant ensures efficient and reliable power generation even under fluctuating weather conditions. The project reinforces Sumathi Holdings’ position as a technology-driven and future-focused contributor to Sri Lanka’s evolving energy landscape.

Jagath Sumathipala, Chairman at Sumathi Holdings emphasised the broader impact of the Wewila Solar Plant beyond power generation by stating, “This project sets a clear path for sustainable regional development by reducing carbon emissions while protecting the natural resources across the island. Sumathi IT Launches DJI DOCK 3 for the First Time in Sri Lanka

Sumathi Information Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka’s leading Geospatial Engineering Solutions provider and a subsidiary of Sumathi Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, unveiled the country’s first-ever DJI Dock 3 at The View – Waters Edge, with over 180 representatives from multiple government and business sectors attending the event. This launch marks its position as an authorised dealer for DJI Enterprise and DJI Agriculture drones in Sri Lanka and signals a new chapter in the nation’s adoption of drone technologies across critical industries.

Developed by DJI, the Dock 3 is a next-generation drone docking station designed for fully automated, remote, and scheduled flight missions with minimal human intervention. The launch demonstrated its transformative potential across multiple sectors. In public safety, the DJI Dock 3 enables rapid deployment of autonomous drones for emergencies, disaster response, surveying and mapping, rescue and disaster management, and continuous monitoring. Beyond this, it also supports vital applications such as traffic monitoring, plantation monitoring, and the study of animal habits, positioning it as a versatile tool for both urban and environmental management.
